OA-North View has launched a new partnership with Essex and Thames SCITT, welcoming three trainee teachers to the school as part of their behaviour placement.
The trainees completed a short placement with us, providing an opportunity to experience alternative provision and gain insight into supporting young people with a wide range of needs and backgrounds.
Essex and Thames SCITT is a teacher training provider and charity with a strong reputation across Essex, Southend and Thurrock. Its mission is to equip trainees with the skills, confidence and experience needed to become outstanding teachers who make a lasting difference in children’s lives.
The placement gave trainees first-hand experience of alternative provision, helping them develop their understanding of inclusive practice, relationship-based approaches and the importance of meeting students’ individual needs.
For us, the partnership provides an opportunity to share expertise and raise awareness of the vital role alternative provision plays within the wider education system. By welcoming trainee teachers into the school, staff can help develop future educators who are better equipped to support all learners throughout their careers.
The placement proved highly successful, with positive feedback received from Essex and Thames SCITT. Two of the three trainee teachers even said they would like to work in alternative provision in the future.

The strength of the partnership has already led to discussions about continuing the programme next year. Emma Day, Behaviour Lead at Essex and Thames SCITT, has asked us to host the behaviour route trainees in March 2027, as well as hosting a trainee for the spring term as their alternative placement, creating further opportunities for trainee teachers to learn from the school’s experienced staff.
